    • Ellis Williams, following a series of tests, was diagnosed yesterday (Wednesday) by his neurologist with a brain tumor on the lower, left back side of his brain. We will see a neurosurgeon tomorrow at noon (Friday) and will know more about surgery and other details at that time. It is possible that surgery will be as early as Monday, but that is yet to be 100% finalized. Ellis feels fine except for a vision problem that he has had for several days, which is the only symptom that led to multiple tests that showed the brain tumor. We are asking for your personal prayers and those of our entire church family at West Metro that this tumor will be benign and that it can be "scooped out" -- and that will be the end of it. Our church family here is in prayer about this and everyone is rallying around us. God has always blessed us with such wonderful Christian friends no matter where we've lived. Also, there is another comfort in that one of our elders is a pathologist at the hospital where we are expecting the surgery will be done. He told us he will be there for the surgery and will do the study on the biopsy or personally oversee the study to determine whether it is benign or malignant. We just returned from a fabulous 10-day driving trip to Milwaukee to visit my college roommate and her husband. They're among the circle of college friends that we've kept up with all of these years. Would love to see everyone there. We'll keep in touch and let you know how things are progressing.
      • UPDATE 10/01/07 Ellis will be having tests next week to determine if the chemo is working. They will found out the results on December 17.
      • UPDATE 10/01/07 Ellis will be starting chemo next week for lung cancer.
      • UPDATE 09/28/07 Ellis came home on Thursday and is doing great. He will be starting chemo for lung cancer soon.
      • UPDATE 09/26/07 Ellis' surgery yesterday to remove the brain tumor went very well and the doctors are confident they got it all. He will begin chemo in 8 to 10 days for the lung cancer.
      • UPDATE 09/24/07 Ellis will be having surgery to remove the brain tumor tomorrow.
      • UPDATE 09/22/07 Ellis' met the oncologist today and was told the results of tests this week show he has stage 4 lung cancer which has metastasized - thus the brain tumor that was diagnosed last week. Surgery is scheduled next Tuesday, September 25, to remove the brain tumor. Plans are to start chemo 8 -10 days after surgery.
      • UPDATE 09/17/07 The news on Friday afternoon at Ellis' appointment with the neurosurgeon was not what we were hoping for. The surgeon says he is 98% sure the brain tumor is malignant due its appearance on the MRI. But more than that, he is likewise sure this type of tumor indicates there is cancer elsewhere. With that expectation, the surgeon has postponed surgery until more tests are completed. The plan of action is to see an oncologist and have numerous other tests within the next few days including a body scan. Once he sees the oncologist, she will become his primary care doctor and the other doctors will work around her recommendations. Surgery to remove the brain tumor may possibly be scheduled next week. But that will depend upon how quickly the oncologist finishes her part. Ellis says he is hanging on the 2% chance that there is no cancer anywhere else -- He says, after all, someone out there is in the 2%, or else it would be 100%!!!! And he says if it is cancer, then he is determined to become part of the large percentage that beat cancer. The doctor told him to continue his activities as he feels fine except for the vision problem. In fact, the surgeon feeling that his work will be good for him -- the social aspect he said. Most important, please continue to pray for Ellis as we walk through the upcoming days. Our church family here has rallied around us with prayers and love, and likewise, we very deeply appreciate all of the love, prayers and concerns from our W Metro church family.

    • Ethan Powell is at St. Jude’s Hospital in Memphis with his parents Ben & Becky, who are Harding University graduates. Ethan was born on December 5, 2006 and diagnosed with Leukemia on February 6, 2007. He was given a 15% chance to survive. Ethan's father Ben started a website when he was born at www.EthanPowell.com to share baby photos with the family. But when Ethan was diagnosed, he immediately logged on using a hospital computer and converted the website into prayer central for Ethan, and has updated this page everyday (sometimes multiple times a day) with the progress. The only thing that he ever asks for is prayer. 640,000+ people from all over the nation have become Ethan's "Prayer Warriors". We are encouraging a UNIFIED PRAYER DAY for ETHAN POWELL on June 10, 2007. If his bone marrow is more than 25% infected with leukemia the doctors are planning to send him to finish out his days peacefully. We are asking on bbehalf of the Powell family that you join us in this prayer - a prayer that Ethan will be able to make it to and through a stem cell transplant. If the numbers are not low enough, the doctors are not willing to attempt it. We are also asking for prayers for his family - they have been a ROCK through this. Please join us on this day to have a Unified Prayer Day - the power of prayer is tremendous. Prayer Works! Ethan is living proof. He has defied the odds so far thanks to prayer and we are asking that you join us in prayer. I challenge you to view this website and see the pictures of this little fighter. It will open your eyes and your heart to the power of prayer.

    • Sandy Bryant, a friend of Lamar and Judy May, is in remission again!! Praise the Lord!! Bob, Sandy's husband, wanted to specifically thank all the good folks at West Metro for all the prayers and cards that have been sent on their behalf. Their battle is not over, of course, as this is a terrible disease that is hard to defeat. He thinks there will be a second round of chemo as a precaution. Lamer is guessing if things still look good after that, they will not go forward with a bone marrow transplant. Sandy's blood work is getting better, but they still want her to be cautious about getting around other people with the anticipated chemo coming up again soon. Since she has been so down with the chemo she finished a couple of weeks ago, Lamar asked Bob if they would give her a couple of weeks off to let her build back up a little before the next round and he thinks they will. They'll be going to Northside for a second opinion as to what course to follow next....another round of chemo, if so, what type, how much, etc. They thank all of you so much for your efforts of their behalf, not only this time, but 2 years ago when she went through this the 1st time! Keep the prayers and cards coming!!!
