Her husband is an Elder and former Pastor in their Church so they believe in prayer, but are also accepting whatever the Lord’s will might be.
- Ellis Williams will have a chest scan and next Monday, July 21, we'll meet with his oncologist to learn the results. As you may recall, he has been taking an oral drug, Tarceva, since the end of March as an effort to keep the cancer "at bay." Needless to say, the news from the doctor on Monday will be a pivotal point in Ellis' future treatments. We are again asking for your concentrated prayers that Tarceva has been a successful treatment and that Ellis can continue to successfully battle the cancer. God is truly awesome & has already blessed him beyond anything the medical profession expected. Thanks to each of you for your endless love and support. For those of you who don't regularly see Ellis, he is doing well overall. He has regained a lot of his energy, although there are days where he feels tired and doesn't do much, and he still has some of the side effects from chemo. He enjoys doing all of our yard work and definitely enjoys tending his roses. He has returned to work part time (usually Monday only), just to have something scheduled in his life.
- UPDATE 10/15/08God has answered prayers again as we received good news this morning! We saw Ellis' doctor today and she is amazed with the results of Ellis' CT scan from last week. She says the cancer is still being "held at bay" and, without a doubt, the medication (Tarceva)he is taking is working. In fact, she said it has been learned that those who have side effects like Ellis is having (mostly digestive), are the ones on whom Tarceva works. Tarceva is one of the newer drugs, so there is yet much to be learned about it. Words seem inadequate to say thank you for your continued prayers and love. We know today's good news is a thanksgiving to our God. Philippians 4:6 keeps coming to my mind today, "Do not be anxious about anything but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Ellis is scheduled for a PET scan January 12 and a meeting with his doctor January 19. We'll update you again at that time. With our love, Freeda
- UPDATE 10/07/08 Ellis is scheduled for a CT scan this coming Monday, and we'll meet with his oncologist the following week on Tuesday, October 14, to learn the results. Ellis is doing amazingly well and his energy level continues to build, allowing him to do whatever he wants. He deals with an occasional side effect from his medication of an upset digestive system, and food generally does not have a good taste to him. But these are minor in comparison to the big picture. We thank you for your continual prayers and for letting us know you are praying. We ask that you pray the scan will show Ellis' medication is continuing to keep the cancer "at bay." We know beyond any doubt that God has shown His power in bringing Ellis to this point. In September we crossed the one-year anniversary of discovering that Ellis has cancer. According to medical science, the odds were Ellis would not be with us today -- except for God's intervention. As David wrote in Psalm 34:3, "Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together." One of us will let you know the news after we meet with the doctor on October 14. With our love to all, Freeda
- UPDATE 07/23/08 From Ellis "Ten months ago my doctors told me to get all my family together for Christmas 2007 for that would be all I could expect. The treatments were set up to provide a short term quality of life. I was in a frame of mind that allowed the medical profession to do what they knew to do with my cooperation. But my "hope" was built on nothing less than Jesus Christ. I waited on the Lord to do His will, whatever that might be. In May I celebrated my 70th birthday in a grand way, thanks to many of you. Thanks to chemo and radiation and other procedures the cancer diminished. Or was it due to medications? Today I asked the doctor to sign an insurance form that said my life expectancy is less than 1 year. She "declined" since the tests this past week show no activity in the lymph nodes and the remaining cancer cells are dormant. She said continue medications and maintain status quo indefinitely. I am pleased she is pleased and proud of our success, but she says we had some help. My hope, assurance, and peace comes from more than medication and procedures. From the beginning of this journey and long before that I have thanked God for the blessings of this life and the promise of an eternal life. There are times during this struggle when your support raises my hopes and demonstrates your faith which I need. It is my prayer that you also have gained confidence in the fellowship we share with one another through Jesus our brother. God Blesses Us All, Ellis"

- Hope Hayes, Savanna's former stepmom, has been expecting twins since the end of November (due August 18th). This was an IVF pregnancy and high risk also because she is in her late thirties. Last Friday she learned she had lost one of the twins. Since that time she has been on bedrest and yesterday went to the specialist. An ultrasound revealed parts of the non-viable twin remain with the possibility it could cause a severe infection. She was admitted to Northside where they are administering powerful antibiotics. If any signs of infection arise they will immediately take the other baby at just 17 weeks now. We are asking everyone to keep Hope, Jeff and Baby Hayes in prayer over the next week while she is hospitalized in hopes she can continue to carry this baby.

- Chick Dimmock, David Doom's Aunt, is in her 80's and lives in the same retiment community, in Black Mt. NC, as his Dad and Mother, was admitted this past week to the Health Center (it is sort of an "almost" hospital for the folks there). They ran some tests and found out that she has liver cancer. This is a VERY fast moving, and often very painful illness. David's Mother's hearing isn't that good, but she said heard that his Aunt Chick would have 3-4 months, but his Dad said he heard the medical people say 3-4 weeks. David's Aunt Chick still has that dear wonderful cheerful attitude that first drew Libby to David's wonderful family, and her first response was, "I have been missing Al (her husband who died over a year ago) an awful lot, and I am so glad I will have a chance to be with him again!" David's Aunt Chick has a large family spread all over the place, including one child who is working as a missionary in South Africa. This will be a difficult time for all of her family and for David's family, too, becuse she has always been very close to David's Mother. Please do pray for them all. Thank you so much.

- Ellis Williams Just want to update you on Ellis' progress. Tomorrow Ellis is scheduled for his last chemo treatment. He has had a fairly good week (which was the 3rd week in the chemo cycle) with an improved energy level - considering the strain that chemo puts on ones body. He has been able to eat more this week than he has for a long time - even though the food possibilities remained very limited. He drank lots of instant breakfast which was more palatable than a number of other foods. His doctor prescribed steroids the second week of the chemo cycle, and I think this settled his body in regard to eating. His ophthalmologist prescribed three types of eye drops this week that she thinks will help with his vision problems, although he has not seen improvement yet. She said the blurred vision is not from the brain tumor but is a side effect of the chemotherapy. Please continue to keep him in your prayers and pray that the chemotherapy is working. I expect tomorrow the oncologist will give us a date for tests to determine the success of the chemo treatments.
- UPDATE 04/27/08 Ellis is scheduled for an MRI of the brain, which is a precautionary measure. We expect everything will be fine, but ask for your prayers nevertheless. We'll learn the results a week from tomorrow, May 5. One of us will update you at that time. He continues to feel well overall, and has regained much of his lost energy.
- UPDATE 03/26/08 Today God has given us a huge blessing with wonderful news! The oncologist and her P.A. were so excited that they came into our room together to share the good news. The radiologist's summary read, "There has been a striking reduction in both the volume and intensity of neoplastic tissue in the chest.........." The oncologist explained this means the chemotherapy did its job, and Ellis can look forward to many good months ahead. At the same time, the oncologist pointed out this type of cancer is expected to start growing again at some time down the road, since there is no recognized 100% cure. Ellis said, "That's OK - I'm already closer to joining that small percentage of 10 year survivors." As an effort to hold the cancer at bay, the oncologist has prescribed a targeted therapy, Tarceva, that Ellis will take in the form of a daily pill. Here is part of the written description we were given: "Tarceva is designed to block tumor cell growth by targeting a protein that is present on the surface of some cancer cells." If this therapy is working for Ellis at the end of three months, his oncologist expects he will take it for as long as two years, rather than having more chemotherapy. We are overjoyed today, and we KNOW that God is a mighty God, and has answered your many, many prayers of faith on behalf of Ellis. We love each of you and deeply appreciate your expressions of love and concern. Please keep Ellis in your prayers and especially pray that the Tarceva therapy will work for Ellis.
- UPDATE 03/21/08 Tomorrow Ellis will have a PET scan for a two-month evaluation following his last chemotherapy on January 28. We'll meet with his oncologist next Tuesday, March 25, to learn the results. Ellis' energy level is continuing to improve, and he said today that he thinks some of his sense of taste may be returning -- even though everything still tastes like dirt! Considering what his body has been through, he is doing well. Once again, we're asking for your prayers to our merciful God that the scan will show good results. One of us will send another update after meeting with the doctor next week.
- UPDATE 02/27/08 God has again blessed Ellis! Overall, Ellis' oncologist was happy (and smiling) today with the results of the tests from last week. The radiologist's report indicates a reduction in the size of the chest area lymph nodes, with no new lymph node enlargement since the December 10 CT scan -- this is good news. The tumor has remained unchanged from the Dec 10 CT scan, even though at that time, it had greatly reduced itself and was hardly there. Also, there is no indication of disease in any of his other organs that were seen in the CT scan (liver, thyroid, etc.). The oncologist does not recommend more treatments now, and this will give his body additional time to recover from the chemotherapy. In March, he is scheduled to have a PET scan and we'll meet with the oncologist for evaluation the last week in March. Her plan is to do frequent checks and watch for any changes. He is hoping to soon regain his energy and sense of taste. He is also anxious for his gums to return to a healthy state so he can resume his dental work from last fall. We both thank you for your ongoing concern and especially for your prayers. The news today says God has heard your prayers!
- UPDATE 02/22/08 Ellis had a CT scan, and we'll meet with his oncologist next Monday to learn the results. Overall, Ellis is pushing forward and retains his determination for good months ahead. As would be expected, he does have days where he doesn't feel well and hugs the pillow all day, but he is "up & around" most days. We're asking for prayers for God's blessings and that we'll be told on Monday the chemotherapy has been effective. As I think I told you, three weeks ago before his last chemo treatment his doctor was all smiles and excited that she will have good news next week. Thank you, thank you for your love and concerns.

- Ellis Williams has had a slow, slow week since chemo last Monday and Freda thinks a big part of this has been that he is barely able to get food or drink swallowed. He says the taste of everything is awful and he shudders and shakes when he tries to swallow. About the only things he has consistently been able to force down are instant breakfast and jello. I think the instant breakfast is the one item that is sustaining him. His doctor wants him to drink Ensure, but he finds that almost impossible because of the taste! The last few days, he has mostly spent his time on the sofa or the recliner enjoying lots of satellite TV with many naps in between. (Naps are good as this lets his body deal with the chemo.) Today is a beautiful, sunny day here in the low 60's and Ellis wanted to go for a ride. So off they went this morning and drove across the country side north of Frisco toward Oklahoma. Then he thought he could eat a McDonald's burger and he was able to get a few bites down and drink a few sips of soft drink. Even fast food is OK these days! Tomorrow morning he goes for lab work to determine the levels of his blood counts, etc. So far, he has been blessed with high white blood cell counts; this is the most important lab item in keeping his body strong throughout the chemo. His doctor called a few minutes ago and is prescribing a 3-day medication that might improve his ability to eat for the next few days. All in all, he is holding up extremely well considering the small amount of food he has ingested the last couple of weeks - no aches or pains. He is anxious to get the last chemo treatment behind him (two weeks from today), and is looking forward to eating and and regaining energy soon after that. They thank you for your many prayers and concerns.

- Tabitha, Rex and Will Willes Please continue to pray for them
- UPDATE 01/16/08 God is Good! Will's difficulties at the end of last week turned out to be short-lived and he is again progressing. The good news is that he has been moved from Unit A in the neonatal intensive care unit to Unit B which is a step down unit - a sure sign he is not as critical and does not require the level of care he has been receiving. Tabitha is now able to pick him up, change a diaper or feed him without having to call a nurse and getting permission or having them hand him to her. He seems to be responding to his medication changes as well. Thank you so much for your prayers and support as we know this is what is bringing all of us through this.
- UPDATE 01/07/08 Will is improving, but will not be able to go home for a little while longer.
