FROM RICKY’S DESK For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men – the testimony given in its proper time. Last Sunday was Easter Sunday. As per tradition, the lesson was particularly focused on God’s sacrifice on our behalf. We shared a word from God together that continues to resonate with us. Lord willing, it always will. There are some stories that never grow old. The truth of the Christ is always, always contemporary. It is always pertinent to us and our condition. Easter, however, is not the only time to celebrate and remember. In fact, as Christians every breath we take is an opportunity to celebrate God’s sacrifice. There is no need to reserve it for just a few times per year. God desires – and demands! – to hear from us all the time. For as long as we live and breathe, our loyalty and service is to God. Our highest calling is to draw nearer to Him and love Him more deeply as we consider – again – what He has done and what He continues to do to bring us close to Him. God is a God who reconciles people back to Him. Today we rejoice again in Him. Hopefully, and prayerfully, we will do it tomorrow, too. And the next day, and the next day, and the next day … --Ricky CARE GROUP LUNCHES Today Care Group 4 will be eating lunch together. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness. (2 Peter 3:10-13) Today as I write this (Friday), it is 'Field Trip Day!’ I'm going to a museum with Derek's 4th grade class. I've known this has been coming for a number of weeks now, but today is the day! I even have bright yellow sheet of paper in front of me telling of all the details of when and how we'll be doing everything on this trip. It's good to know what's happening and what the plan is. In the verses above, Peter tells about the biggest, most important trip we could ever hope to be a part of. It's the trip to heaven, the 'home of righteousness'. He doesn't give us all of the details about the exact date, time, or world circumstances/signs that we should be anxiously looking for though. Instead, Peter just tells us to be ready. "Live holy and godly lives and look forward to the day of God and speed its coming," he says. Are you living in this way? Are you ready? Are you excited about going to heaven? Today just might be our heavenly 'Field Trip Day!’ Kevin OUR PRAYER LIST • Please say a prayer of thanks as Pete Dolan and Ellis Williams received good news this week regarding their health. • Marilynn Peal’s brother-in-law, Jack Doyle, has not yet been able to return home from rehab. • Tamara Edwards is experiencing some complications with her pregnancy but the doctors have reassured them that the baby is fine.
